Progress City Expanding

Decatur – From an idea on paper more than a decade ago to the site of one of the largest farm trade shows in the United States.  Progress City, next to the campus of Richland Community College, is ready to expand.

“An expansion that will allow for a hundred additional vendors,” RCC spokesman Lisa Gregory told WAND's Doug Wolfe.  “The expansion is going to occur on the southwest corner and that is where the hundred additional vendors will be located.”

The Farm Progress Show uses Progress City as its home for its large trade show in odd number years.  It is located in Boone, Iowa in even number years.  Progress City consists of permanent buildings, paved roads, electricity, sewers and fire hydrants.

The expansion is expected to be a $1 million project.  Although work has not started the expansion is expected to be completed by the September start of the Farm Progress Show.

“Adding in about three streets and two avenues that will bring about 20% larger expansion of the Progress City grounds,” said Beau Hanger of Progress City.  “We still are looking to try to give the premium experience to all of the vendors coming out to the show.”

The 2015 Farm Progress Show is set for September 1, 2 and 3.
