U of I president transferring more than $8 million to student-centered programs

CHICAGO - University of Illinois officials say President Timothy Killeen plans to announce that more than $8 million in recurring funds from centrally held University accounts will be used to support financial aid and other student-centered programs.

Officials say Killeen is expected to formally announce the change during a City Club of Chicago meeting on Wednesday.  The $8.2 million in funds were previously held in university accounts that could be used by the president for various initiatives and projects across all three University of Illinois campuses.

Officials also say Killeen will ask campuses to submit proposals for a share of the money, which could be used for counseling and placement services, minority student recruitment, financial aid, and other student centered programs.
