IDOT announced temporary closure of portion of I-57

CHAMPAIGN - Illinois Department of Transportation officials have announced that a portion of northbound Interstate 57 in Champaign will be temporarily closed this weekend.

IDOT officials say the closure will affect northbound I-57 at Curtis Road, and is expected to last from 8:00 p.m. on June 6 until 8:00 a.m. on June 7, weather permitting.  Officials say the closure is necessary for repair work to be completed on the I-57 overpass at Kirby Avenue.

Traffic will be detoured to U.S. Route 45, to Springfield Avenue, to Mattis Avenue, to I-72, and back to I-57.  Additionally, Kirby Avenue will be restricted to one lane of traffic, utilizing temporary signals.

Motorists are reminded to use caution and reduce speeds in work zones, and to be alert for workers and machinery.
