Christian County authorities foil alleged escape attempt

CHRISTIAN COUNTY - Central Illinois authorities say two Christian County Jail inmates who allegedly attempted to escape the facility were apprehended during the early morning hours of June 4.

Christian County authorities say at about 12:01 a.m., two inmates allegedly knocked a hole in an interior wall of their cell block, allowing them to gain access into a small hallway between cell blocks.  Officers say the two inmates were apprehended before they had the chance to get to any exterior walls and escape.

Authorities say the two inmates in this alleged incident have been identified as Brandon Gardner, 25, and Nick Steele, 28.  Both face a preliminary charge of attempted escape.  Christian County correctional officers say the investigation into this incident is ongoing.
