Champaign police investigate bank robbery

CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign Police Department is seeking the public's help in identifying a suspect in a bank robbery that took place on June 5.

Champaign police say at about 9:17 a.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery at the First Financial Bank location in the 1600 block of South Prospect Avenue.  Upon arriving, officers learned that a robbery had taken place, and an undetermined amount of money had been taken.

Authorities say banking staff members reported to officers that the suspect had demanded money from the teller.  The teller gave the money to the suspect, who then ran on foot westbound from the bank.

Champaign police say the suspect was captured on surveillance video.  We have included a still image from the video in this article.  The suspect is described as a black male in his early twenties, standing 5'8" or 5'9", and weighing 200 to 220 pounds.  The suspect has a thin mustache, and was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, dark gray jeans, and tan work boots.
