Springfield Public Works Office announces temporary removal of traffic signals

SPRINGFIELD - The Springfield Office of Public Works has announced that traffic signals will no longer control four intersections starting on June 9.

Officials say the following intersections will no longer be controlled by traffic signals:

- Laurel Street and Lowell Avenue (Flashing red lights will be in place for all directions.)
- Laurel Street and Spring Street (Spring Street will be controlled by stop signs)
- 13th Street and Cook Street (13th Street will be controlled by stop signs)
- Henrietta Avenue and Lawrence Avenue (Henrietta Avenue will be controlled by stop signs.)

Public Works officials say those intersections will be studied for 90 days to determine if the signals can be permanently removed.  If you have any questions, call (217) 789-2255.
