Niemerg's Gem Earns Wooden Shoes a 3rd Place Trophy

By Matt Loveless

PEORIA -- The Wooden Shoes bounced back from a disappointing Friday to secure the 2A 3rd place trophy at Dozer Park Saturday.

Brock Mette went 3-for-3 and Louis Niemerg gave up just one run in a complete game effort, as Teutopolis (32-6-1) beat Peru-St. Bede 4-1.

In a 1-1 game in the fifth, Austin Johnson's 2-run single put the Wooden Shoes ahead for good.

Niemerg threw just 78 pitches in seven innings, efficiently scattering six hits while striking out three.

It's the 6th top-3 place finish for Teutopolis since 1999, and first since they won back-to-back championships in 2010 and 2011.
