Five-Run 4th Inning Propels McNamara Past SJO; Spartans Finish 4th

By Matt Loveless

EAST PEORIA -- On Friday, it was the offense.  Saturday, it was the defense that contributed to another tough state loss, and the St. Joseph-Ogden softball team will settle for a 4th place finish at state.

An error in the Kankakee-McNamara 4th contributed to a 5-run inning -- just two of those earned -- as the Spartans fell 5-3 at Eastside Centre.

A day after getting shut out, and shut down, by Nashville ace Maci Ingram, the Spartans got on the board early against McNamara starter Alex Starako.

Andrea Coursey's 1st inning double gave the Spartans an early 1-0 lead, but hey could never recover from McNamara's big inning.

It was SJO's 4th top-4 finish in program history.
