Early Hole Too Deep, as Bullets Finish 2nd at State

PEORIA -- The Williamsville baseball team was on the wrong end of a Cinderella story Saturday night at Dozer Park.

Rockford-Christian starter Brandon Williams scattered 7 hits, allowing two runs, as the Bullets fell 6-2 in the 2A state championship game.

The Eagles came into the year never having won a regional title, but rolled to a 36-6 finish and their first state title Saturday.

Jake Kellerman had a monster day, hitting homeruns in both the 2nd and 3rd inning, the latter a back-breaking 3-run shot.

Two 3rd inning errors contributed to a 4-run frame for the Eagles, who took an early 5-0 lead.  Williamsville starter Sam Fanale lasted just three innings, though of the five runs scored against him, just two were earned.

The runner-up finish matches the Bullets best in school history (1997).  They finished 2015 with a 31-7 record.
