1 injured in single-vehicle crash on I-55

MONTGOMERY COUNTY - Illinois State Police say one person was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 55 Monday night.

Authorities say the crash happened on I-55 northbound at mile post 72 at about 11:20 p.m.  Troopers say the driver of the vehicle reported that she swerved to avoid hitting a deer in the roadway, causing her vehicle to leave the roadway, enter the right ditch, and overturn before coming to rest in the lanes of traffic.

Authorities also say a rear passenger in the vehicle was ejected during this crash, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  Troopers say the northbound lanes of Interstate 55 were closed for about four hours while the crash was investigated.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing.  We will provide more details as they become available.
