Special Olympics Illinois Summer Games begin June 12

NORMAL - Special Olympics Illinois officials say the 2015 Summer Games are scheduled to kick off on June 12.

This year's Summer Games will be held at Illinois State University campus in Normal and the Illinois Wesleyan University campus in Bloomington from 12:00 p.m. on June 12 until 12:00 p.m. on June 14.  Officials say more than 4,100 athletes from across Illinois will compete in one of six sports; Aquatics, Athletics (Track and Field,) Bocce, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, and Soccer.

In order to qualify for the Summer Games, athletes must have won a gold medal in athletics at their Area Spring Games, won a gold medal in District competition for gymnastics, bocce, or aquatics, or have participated in a sanctioned competition or Area qualifier in soccer or powerlifting.
