Danville police arrest 2 in alleged attempted bank robbery

DANVILLE - The Danville Police Department has announced that two individuals have been arrested in connection with an alleged attempted bank robbery.

Danville police say officers were dispatched to 1st Savings Bank on West Williams Street at about 4:29 p.m. on June 10 for a report of a bank robbery in progress.  Officers say bank employees reported that two males attempted to enter the bank with their faces covered.  Employees also reported that the males were unable to enter the bank due to the doors being locked, as the establishment was closing for the day.  The men were said to have ran from the bank a short time later.

Authorities say an officer responding to the report saw the two men running in an alley across North Vermilion Street.  A pursuit began when the suspects entered a car and drove northbound on North Vermilion Street, and ended when the driver of the vehicle was involved in a traffic crash.  Police say the men were apprehended following a short foot chase after the crash.

Danville police say the identities of the men, and other details of this incident, are not being released at this time.  Police also say they will continue their investigation into this alleged attempted robbery.

We will provide more details as they become available.
