Man arrested in connection with abduction of a child
CHAMPAIGN – Police in Champaign have arrested a Thomas Boitnott, 23, of St. Joseph, in connection with the abduction of a 6-month old child.
Boitnott was arrested early Friday morning and has been booked into the Champaign County Jail. He is facing charges of kidnapping, attempted murder, and motor vehicle theft.
Deputies say at about 11:00 a.m. Thursday, the Champaign County Sheriff's Office received a report of an abduction of a six-month-old girl from a home in St. Joseph. Authorities say Boitnott, the biological father of the baby, allegedly got into an argument with the child's mother. Champaign County Sheriff's deputies say Boitnott allegedly left the home with the baby girl and the mother's car, without her permission.
On June 11, Boitnott was seen walking alone in the area of 2050 County Road 1950N in St. Joseph.
After he was arrested, the search for the child, Karma Boitnott, intensified . While working off of rough information provided by Thomas Boitnott, the infant was located laying in a bean field about 200 yards south of County Road 2300N.
Karma Boitnott was returned to her mother and is doing alright.
