UPDATE: Coroner identifies man involved in fatal car/pedestrian crash

UPDATE - The Champaign County Coroner has identified a man who died in a fatal crash in Decatur that happened during the early morning hours of June 12.

Coroner Duane Northrup says Lavall Love, 32, was pronounced dead at 2:52 a.m. at Carle Foundation Hospital.  Northrup says Love died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Northrup also says no autopsy will be performed, although an inquest may be held at a later date.  Love's death is still under investigation by the Champaign County Coroner's Office and the Decatur Police Department.

DECATUR - The Decatur Police Department is investigating a fatal crash that took place early Friday morning on 1000 E. Grand Street.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, they discovered a 21 year old man had struck a man sitting in the roadway.

It is unknown why the man was sitting in the roadway.

The 42 year old man was taken to Decatur Memorial Hospital before being transported to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he died at approximately 4:00 AM.
