IDOA encouraging state residents to take stand against elder abuse and neglect

Posted:
SPRINGFIELD - The Illinois Department on Aging is encouraging state residents to recognize elder abuse, neglect, and exploitation during Grandparent Alienation Awareness Day on June 14 and World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15.

IDOA officials say Grandparent Alienation Awareness Day aims to recognize grandparent rights, as well as the negative effects of being alienated from a child's life.  Officials also say World Elder Abuse Awareness Day highlights the need to end physical, emotional, and financial abuse of elder.

Illinois residents are encouraged to wear purple in a show of solidarity in ending elder abuse and neglect.  For more information about programs that assist older residents, visit http://www.illinois.gov/aging/.
