Springfield Police Investigating Friday Morning Shooting

Springfield - Liquor bottles, bullet holes, and police tape are the result of violence that broke out at a late-night party on Springfield's east side in the 1900 block of East South Grand..

Police say the victim was hit with two bullets in the pelvic area and sustained non-life threatening injuries.

"A 21 year-old male was shot twice in the pelvis area.  We found the victim at st. John's hospital.  He'd be transported there by a private vehicle," said Springfield police deputy chief Dan Mounce.

Mounce told WAND News that the police are in need of help from the community following Friday morning's shooting.

"We can't do our jobs without the public's assistance.  I mean it's just impossible.  We can't be everywhere all the time.  We're not getting great cooperation from the people that drove the victim to the hospital.  They're being very vague about what occurred.  That's the only way that that's going to occur is that people take a stand, get sick of it, and start helping us out," said Mounce.

Mounce said that if you were in the area and happened to hear or see anything at the time of the shooting, you're encouraged to contact the sangamon county crimestoppers where you can make an anonymous tip.
