ISP Investigates Fatal Crash

UPDATE – The Vermilion County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal crash that took place on the night of Friday, June 12.

Coroner Peggy Johnson says the victim is John K. Gibson of Urbana. Johnson's preliminary autopsy revealed Gibson died of multiple blunt force trauma.

Toxicology tests are pending.

VERMILLION COUNTY - The Illinois State Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place near Milepost 211.5 on I-74 westbound in Vermillion County Friday night.

Police say a white Mazda struck the rear of a Green Freightliner's semi trailer, killing the driver of the Mazda. The driver of the Mazda was the only person inside the car.

The right driving lane of I-74 was closed for nearly four hours.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

The name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
