Fostering Children Into A Bright Future

DECATUR- Providing more than just a safe home for foster children but the school supplies to succeed.

Mandy Scheibly has been a foster parent for the children of Macon County for more than a year. During her time she noticed that these children are not only uprooted from home but from their schools as well, leaving them without the supplies needed to complete their assignments and offer a smooth transition.

She said, "Foster children come into care with little to nothing, they're not allowed to go back and get their have three days to get them into school and make sure everything is taken care of. And sometimes in those three days that [supplies] is the last thing you think of."

After speaking with a case worker about this issue, she decided to create Pencils for Success a  program that donates backpacks complete with all the standard schools supplies any student could need.

She said, " We want to be able to provide every school aged child at Webster Cantrell Hall with a backpack, just last April there were 90 plus kids in need."

The program is hoping to reach 100 backpacks and donations by August 1st. They currently only have 30. For more information on how you can help visit their website.
