LaTulip to Redshirt Upcoming Season and Transfer in 2016

CHAMPAIGN -- Illinois guard Mike LaTulip will redshirt the upcoming season, Head Coach John Groce announced Monday. After earning his undergraduate degree, Latulip plans to transfer to another school to exhaust his final year of eligibility in the 2016-2017 season.

"Mike and I have had numerous discussions about this and I fully support his decision," Groce said. "He has been a valuable member of our program since joining us at the beginning of our tenure three years ago. In addition to being a tremendous shooter, Mike is an extremely intelligent, hard worker who helps set the tone for our team with his competitiveness each and everyday. He will continue to provide that same leadership and intensity in practice this season, with the only difference being he will not compete on game day in order to preserve his final year of athletic eligibility. We will help Mike find the best fit to finish his career as he earns a world-class University of Illinois degree."

LaTulip joined the program as a preferred walk-on before eventually being awarded a scholarship for the 2015 spring semester. LaTulip has appeared in 44 games during his three year career, totaling 56 points.
