IHSA Releases Enrollment/Classification Changes for 2015-2016
New classification numbers are out for Illinois' high schools.
The annual report, released by the IHSA Board Wednesday, details in which postseason bracket each school and team will participate. The new numbers will change circumstances for a number of local teams.
For example, reigning 1A state girls soccer champion Rochester will now play in the 2A tournament. Rochester's reported enrollment is 731 -- the 2015-2016 cutoff for soccer teams 730, making Rochester the smallest of all 2A soccer schools.
Other changes include the "success adjustment," a recent measure to bump schools up a classification based on their postseason performance. Among those affected: St. Teresa Cross Country, which finished 5th in the state 1A competition in 2014, following four straight state titles. The Bulldogs will now run in the 2A.
St. Thomas More girls basketball, which won a 2A state title in 2014 (following a runner-up finish in 2013) will now compete in the 3A.
The IHSA released a grid with classifications for each school in each sport, which can be viewed here.
