Champaign Police make arrest for May 6 Weapons Investigation

CHAMPAIGN – Champaign Police officers say they have made an arrest in connection with a May 6 incident for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons.

Officers arrested 18-year-old Marquis A. Jones of Champaign on an outstanding arrest warrant. Jones was arrested in the 900 block of North Fourth Street in Champaign on Wednesday, June 17.

During the May 6 incident, Champaign Police Detectives tried to speak with Jones, who immediately fled on foot. Detectives also observed Jones discard a revolver from his waistband along his flight path. The officers determined the revolver was stolen upon recovering it.

The investigation is ongoing, and Champaign Police Detectives ask that anyone with information contact the Champaign Police Department Investigations Division at 217-351-4545.
