DECATUR - The Decatur Police Department has announced that one person has been arrested in connection with a shooting incident that happened Sunday night.

Decatur police say officers were dispatched to the 900 block of West Center Street at about 8:00 p.m. for a report of a fight in progress and shots being fired.  Upon arriving at the scene, officers learned that an individual had arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.  This individual would later be transferred to Carle Hospital in Urbana with serious injuries.

Authorities say officers on the scene spoke with witnesses to the incident, which led to officers determining that the suspect was still in the area.  A short time later, police say the suspect was taken into custody.

Decatur police say the victim and suspect in this incident were acquaintances, and that this shooting is not related to other shootings that have taken place recently.  Police have identified the suspect as Richard Davis III, 20.  Davis currently faces a preliminary charge of attempted murder, and is in custody at the Macon County Jail on $100,000 bond.

We will continue to provide updates as they become available.
