Decatur Youth Hockey To Raise Additional $75K

Decatur – Decatur Youth Hockey benefited from a 2nd place finish nationally in the Kraft Hockeyville contest.  The organization will collect $75,000 for much needed repairs and renovations of the hockey facilities at the Decatur Civic Center which opened its doors in 1980.

An anonymous donor is now providing a jump start toward raising an additional $75,000 to bring the total to $150,000.  The donor will match donations from the community up to $37,500 for the $75,000 total.

Donations began coming in within minutes of the announcement of the matching program.  Retired ADM executive Doug Schmaltz says he is donating $10,000.  The local Rotary Club collected $10,000 in pledges from its members during lunch on Monday.  Another $2,000 has also been pledged.  So the hockey group now needs to collect another $15,500 for the full match.

Donations can be made through The Community Foundation of Macon County at 125 North Water Street in Decatur.  Or online at  Just click on “donate” in the top right hand corner.  Please enter “hockey” in the box asking for the name of the fund.
