SPRINGFIELD - Illinois officials say Governor Bruce Rauner has activated the State Emergency Operations Center in Springfield in response to recent tornado touchdowns in northern Illinois communities.

Rauner says the center was activated in order to ensure that crews and equipment can be quickly deployed to affected areas should local emergency responders need additional help.  Officials add that several state agencies are reporting to the center, and that the center will remain activated as long as necessary.
