MONTROSE – Illinois State Police District 12 report they are investigating a crash with injuries on U.S. 40 approximately 1 mile east of Montrose.

Authorities say the crash occurred at 1:34 PM on Tuesday, June 23.

Parties involved were a 22-year-old male from Altamont, Illinois driving a White 2004 Chevrolet Van and a 35-year-old male from Beecher City, Illinois. The Beecher City male was working underneath a tow truck towing a truck tractor or semi-trailer at the time of the crash. The driver of the towed semi unit was also outside the vehicle.

Preliminary investigative details indicate the driver of the van fell asleep at the wheel. The van struck the tow truck and then the driver of the unit. Subsequently, the van entered a ditch and rolled over.

The driver of the van faces a preliminary charge of failure to reduce speed to avoid accident.

Both drivers were transported to area hospitals.

This is an ongoing investigation, and more details will be provided as they are confirmed.
