Capital Township launches Workfare Program

Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD - Springfield residents in search of work are being invited to participate in a Workfare Program at Capital Township's General Assistance Office on June 25.

Officials say the Workfare Program will help match eligible applicants with employers who have signed up to offer temporary, paid work to Capital Township residents between the ages of 18 and 62.

Eligible applicants must be unemployed, have no children in the home, and are willing to work without any physical limitations.  Additionally, applicants must not have a pending Social Security application for SSI or SSD, or be under a physician's care for a medical issue.

Officials say the goal of the program is to offer residents the chance to build skills and work experience for future full-time employment.  For more information about this program, visit
