CHAMPAIGN - Champaign Unit 4 School officials say the Illinois State Board of Education has awarded the district an $8,100 grant to help support professional development for teachers and English Learner students.

Officials say the grant will help offset the cost of a new 11-session Virtual Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol Training Institute.  Under this new workshop, ESL and bilingual education teachers will receive in-depth instruction on how the SIOP Model works.

Officials also say the strategies taught in the workshops will support English language development and academic achievement for students who are learning English.  For more information, visit
