Posted: Updated:
SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Fire Department, in cooperation with Memorial Medical Center's Regional Burn Center, is hosting a demonstration showing the dangers of fireworks on Wednesday, July 1.

This demonstration will take place at the Children's Safety Village located at 4521 South Eleventh Street in Springfield. It begins at 10 AM.

Fire fighters will demonstrate how easily clothing can be ignited by something as small as a sparkler. Studies report 7,400 fireworks injuries were reported in the 30 days surrounding July 4 in 2013. 41 percent of accidents were caused by sparklers. Fireworks also cause an average of almost 20,000 reported fires each year.

Attendees will be able to see the dangers of fireworks first-hand and learn ways to keep themselves safe this Fourth of July weekend.
