Decatur Teen Awarded Simon Youth Scholarship

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – Noah Tate of Decatur has been awarded a Simon Youth Foundation Community Scholarship valued at $1,500.

Tate is receiving the scholarship because of his academic excellence, leadership skills and participation in both school and community activities. The Eisenhower High School graduate plans to study psychology at the University of Illinois in the fall.

This scholarship comes with the help of White Oaks Mall and Simon Youth Foundation (SYF). SYF works to provide educational and career development opportunities to youth living in area with a Simon property. These scholarships are awarded annually to at least one student in those communities. Approximately $1.1 million will be awarded to students this year.

President and CEO of SYF J. Michael Durnil explains the foundation awards students for their academic excellence, so they can continue their education.

“Financial concerns should never be the reason preventing a child from pursuing their dreams,” Durnil says.
