SPRINGFIELD – Capitol Radio Group reports the addition of the Illinois Radio Network (IRN) into its company. Operations will move to Springfield, Illinois as a result.

The Illinois Radio Network is a statewide news network serving more than 40 radio stations statewide with news and sports coverage. Capitol Radio Group (CRG) is the parent company of six Springfield radio stations.

Capitol Radio Group and Illinois Radio Network are both owned and operated by Saga Communications, LLC. CRG’s radio stations include: WTAX (1240am and 107.5 FM), WDBR (103.7), WQQL (Cool 93.9), WYMG (100.5), WLFZ (101.9 The Wolf) and WDBR HD 2 (101.1 ABE FM).

News director of Newsradio 1240 and 107.5 FM WTAX Alex Degman will assume IRN news director responsibilities. Degman has held the news director position since April 2013 and is a former IRN statehouse reporter. He will be replacing former news director Jim Anderson.

Dave Dahl will remain at the capitol full-time in addition to serving as morning anchor on WTAX. Will Stevenson will also assist with Springfield and Capitol coverage as WTAX’s midday anchor and general assignment reporter.

John Gregory and Jason Goch will remain based in Chicago. Gregory works at the James R. Thompson Center bureau. Goch serves as the sports director.

Capitol Radio Group also says WTAX and IRN are adding two part-time sports reporters to be based in Springfield.

“We’re proud to have the Illinois Radio Network based out of the State Capitol and look forward to continuing to bring the news of Illinois to our affiliate Radio stations and their audiences all across the state,” says General Manager and Affiliate Relations Director Charlie Ferguson.
