URBANA – In an update to an article WAND brought you back in May, our partners at the News-Gazette report 21-year-old Champaign resident Reginald Scott has been sentenced for the murder of Vincente Mundo.

Scott was charged with first degree murder in the January 2015 shooting death of 20-year-old University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign junior Vincente Mundo. Mundo was last seen on January 25 as he left a friend’s apartment after receiving a phone call. According to authorities, he was shot in the parking garage of his Champaign apartment in an escape attempt from a “pre-planned armed robbery.” Mundo’s body was found days later.

The News-Gazette reports Scott showed little reaction when Judge Tom Difanis delivered the sentence. Scott will spent 55 years in prison. This sentence is five years fewer than what was sought by the state.

Co-defendant 22-year-old Daniel Gonzalez also faces a first-degree murder in Mundo’s death. He has pleaded not guilty.
