IDNR urging organizations to make sure fireworks vendors have proper licenses

Posted: Updated:

SPRINGFIELD - Illinois Department of Natural Resources officials are reminding individuals and organizations who are sponsoring fireworks displays this weekend to make sure their fireworks vendor is in compliance with the Illinois Explosives Act.

Under the Illinois Explosives Act, anyone who purchases, possesses, uses, transfers, stores, or disposes of any kind of explosives must have an IDNR-issued explosives license and explosives storage certificate.  Officials say the act includes display fireworks, but does not apply to consumer or personal fireworks, such as bottle rockets or firecrackers.

Officials also say anyone who is not in compliance with the Illinois Explosives Act could face up to five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.  Additionally, administrative fines could be applied for violations involving display fireworks and other explosives.
