Applications accepted for Archery Deer Herd Management Program

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Macon County Conservation District is now accepting applications for its 2015 Archery Deer Herd Management Program.

This program allows for limited bow hunting of deer.  Conservation district officials say this program helps to control the deer population and maintain healthy, balanced ecosystems in conservation areas.

Applications can be found at or at the Rock Springs Nature Center, and must be submitted by August 28, 2015.  Applicants will be placed into a lottery drawing that will be held at Rock Springs Nature Center on September 4 at 3:00 p.m.  Hunters will not need to be present to be included in the drawing.

Rock Springs, Sand Creek, Friends Creek, and Fort Daniel Conservation Areas will be included in the lottery drawing.  Officials also say permits will be available for purchase after the lottery drawing.

For more information, call the Macon County Conservation District at (217) 423-7708.
