Decatur officials testing upgrade to emergency warning sirens

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - Decatur officials say they will be testing an upgrade made to the city's emergency warning sirens during a regularly scheduled monthly test on July 7.

According to officials, the regular siren test will begin at 10:00 a.m., after which the sirens' new "Attack Mode" will be tested for approximately 30 seconds.  During this time, Decatur residents may hear a tone that moves up and down in pitch.

Officials add that residents will not need to take any action during this time, as this is only a test of the siren systems.  The new "Attack Mode" will be used to warn people about an attack made against the country.
