State Police Capture Escaped Iowa Inmate

HENRY COUNTY – Illinois State Police say they have captured inmate Justin James Kestner after he escaped from the Iowa Department of Corrections, Fort Madison facility.

Officers were notified at 7:22 AM on Sunday, July 5 that Kestner had escaped and was in the area. The Henry County Sheriff’s Department says they located an abandoned vehicle they suspected had been stolen by Kestner. An Illinois State Trooper found the inmate at 9:52 AM while conducting a search of the area.

Kestner was located walking along Illinois Route 82, a ½ mile south of I-80. He fled into a cornfield but then exited and was taken into custody. Authorities report they have transported him to the Henry County Jail.
