Decatur Police release July 4th traffic crackdown statistics

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR - The Decatur Police Department has announced that officers made one drunk driving arrest in its "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over/Click It or Ticket" crackdown during the Independence Day holiday.

Decatur Police Deputy Chief Jim Getz says 20 seat belt citations were issued in addition to the one arrest this past weekend.  The effort was part of a statewide initiative to make roadways safer during the holiday.

Authorities also say additional emphasis on the crackdown was placed during the late-night hours, when police say the highest number of motorists drink and drive and the fewest buckle up.  Decatur police say they continue to look out for drunk drivers and encourage seat belt use in Illinois.
