SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Mass Transit District (SMTD) announces it has launched a website update aimed at making the website and its navigation more user friendly. Improvements include a mobile-friendly format that suits several screen sizes. This will make the site easier to read and navigate on smartphones and tablets.

SMTD’s Service Planning and Marketing Specialist Steve Schoeffel stays the IT staff put many hours and a lot of effort into this latest update.

“We know that a majority of the traffic on our website comes from mobile devices, and today’s consumers are increasingly relying on mobile devices every day,” Schoeffel explains.

Users will be able to access route maps that are now color-coded for inbound and outbound parts of each route. A toggle function will also allow passengers to highlight where they fit in the current schedule. This will also allow passengers to find their exact location and plan trips accordingly.

Schoeffel remarks the upgrade is designed to give passengers as much information as possible. The SMTD is also working to update the entire system with coordinated GPS capabilities.

The site’s web address remains the same as This upgrade went live with a “soft” launch on Wednesday, July 1. Passengers can expect to see promotions for the website throughout the community.
