SPD Hosts 3rd Annual Capital City Pickleball Classic
SPRINGFIELD – The Springfield Park District will host the Springfield Pickleball Club’s Annual Pickleball Tournament the weekend of July 10 – 12.
This tournament will take place in Iles Park’s pickleball courts located at the intersection of East Ash Street and South 6th Street. There will be viewing stands and concessions available all weekend long. The opening ceremony will take place on Friday, July 10 at 8:30 AM. Mayor Jim Langfelder and Park Board President Leslie Sgro are set to give opening remarks.
Iles’ pickleball courts were opened in 2012 and can support up to 32 players at a time. These courts spurred the formation of the Springfield Pickleball Club. The club currently hosts over 200 players. Iles Park officials say this increased activity overall at the park, and the courts are often in use seven days a week.
Players from as far away as Arizona, Florida and Michigan are coming to compete in the tournament. The schedule is as follows:
Friday, July 10th – 9:00 am 3.5 Mixed Double
3:00 pm Men’s Singles
5:00 pm Women’s Singles begin
Saturday, July 11th – Women’s Double begin 8:00 am
