Decatur GEO Reentry Service Center to Hold Open House

Posted: Updated:

DECATUR – Decatur’s GEO Reentry Service Center plans to hold an open house on Friday, July 10 give the community an opportunity to learn more about its services.

Staff members and participants will be available to meet with members of the community to showcase the services offered by the center. Law enforcement and criminal justice officials will also be present.

This Decatur program provides a cognitive, behavior-based curriculum for over 65 regular participants. Programs like this are shown to reduce relapses back into criminal behavior and strengthen communities. The Illinois Department of Corrections opened the program in 2004 as a response to prison overcrowding and in an attempt to lower the chances of former inmates being returned to prison for criminal behavior.

Officials have recently renamed the center the Reentry Service Center. Participants must complete a cognitive behavioral program, remain free of substances for 90 days and participate in 90 percent of their prescribed group meetings. Graduates are also assisted by counselors in finding employment or enrolling in school.

The open house will be held at the center located at 876 West Grand Avenue in Decatur. It will begin at 10 AM and end at 2 PM. More information about Decatur’s GEO Reentry Service Center and its open house can be obtained by contacting Program Manager Lillian Kinnison at 217-428-5043.
