Mattoon Holds 5th Annual CIL-Con

Posted: Updated:

MATTOON – The Illinois Metaphysical and Paranormal Society (IMPS) will hold their 5th Annual CIL-Con (formerly Central Illinois Paracon) on Friday, August 21 and Saturday, August 22.

It will be held at the Cross County Mall located at 700 Broadway Avenue East in Mattoon. The event will run from 5 to 9 PM on Friday and 10 AM to 8 PM on Saturday.

CIL-Con has expanded from being a traditional paranormal and horror convention to adding gaming and anime components to this year’s convention. This convention will feature paranormal investigation teams discussing with the public and displaying evidence for spectators to see and hear.

The gaming addition will include a “Gamer’s Heaven” room with popular table top, fantasy board games and card games. Mattoon and Charleston’s own End Zone will assist with this display. Local volunteers are working to set up a life size Pac-Man as well as live action role playing demonstrations.

Other features include visits with psychics as well as several craft vendors. Area providers of holistic and natural health products are also welcome to display their goods. CIL-Con also partnered with Zero One Pro Wrestling to put on a free wrestling show on August 22 at 7 PM. WWE Star R-Truth.

IMPS Co-Founder Becky Guymon says this year’s convention is much larger than previous incarnations. She looks forward to the variety of guests speaking throughout the day.

“The event will feature many popular guests who have been featured on the SyFy Channel, Travel Channel and in movies. Some of these guests include Christopher Saint Booth, Steven LaChance, Jonathan and Benny from SyFy’s Deep South Paranormal and many more,” Guymon says.

CIL-Con is free to the public. Officials also say the convention is family friendly.

This convention is another way IMPS strives to raise awareness about paranormal and metaphysical arts.

“Many times people in the community have the wrong impression of paranormal investigators and those involved in metaphysical fields. It is our goal to help build a bridge and fill the gap through teaching and community involvement,” Guymon adds.
