9th Annual Rodney T. Miller Decatur Triathlon kicks off July 12

DECATUR - Decatur Park District officials say the ninth annual Rodney T. Miller Decatur Triathlon will be held on July 12.

Officials say the triathlon is comprised of two races, an intermediate course and short course.  The intermediate course is comprised of a .75-mile swim at Lake Decatur, a 19-mile bike ride, and a 4.5-mile run through Nelson Park, while the short course is comprised of a 400-yard Lake Decatur swim, 19-mile bike ride, and 5K run.  Individuals and relay teams may participate in both races.

Additionally, officials say a kids race will be held at 7:30 a.m. on July 11.  Children ages 10 through 14 will participate in a 250-yard swim, a 3.4-mile bike ride, and 1 mile run, while children ages five through eight will participate in a duathlon comprised of a half-mile run, 1.5 mile bike ride, and another half-mile run.

The intermediate distance triathlon will kick off at Lake Decatur at 7:30 a.m., while the short distance triathlon will begin at 8:00 a.m.  All proceeds from this event will benefit local charities.  Registration for these events will be open during the following days:

July 10:
Adult and Kids Triathlons: 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

July 11:
Kids Triathlon: 5:30 a.m. until 7:00 a.m.
Adult Triathlon: 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.

July 12:
Adult Triathlon: 5:00 a.m. until 7:00 a.m.
