SPRINGFIELD - Animal Protective League officials have announced that the organization's Board President Kevin Hyatt has passed away.

Officials say Hyatt died on July 5 in Springfield.  According to APL Executive Director Deana Corbin, normal operation will continue.  Corbin adds that Hyatt was "a champion for animals, and an irreplaceable friend and supporter of this organization."

Hyatt served on the APL's board as comptroller from 1995 until 2005, when he was appointed to board president.  Officials say APL was led through a period of unprecedented growth under Hyatt's tenure, and that Hyatt was instrumental in securing financial support for APL.
