CHAMPAIGN - The Champaign County State's Attorney's Office has announced that additional charges have been filed against a Champaign police officer who is facing criminal sexual assault charges.

Champaign County State's Attorney Julia Rietz says Jerad Gale, 31, faces new charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault and criminal sexual assault.  Rietz says the new charges are in connection with an alleged incident in November 2014.

Gale was arrested last month on criminal sexual assault charges in connection with two alleged incidents that happened in 2012 and 2013.  Authorities say Gale was not on duty at the time of these alleged incidents.

Gale has been placed on leave from the Champaign Police Department, and remains in custody at the Piatt County Jail.  We will provide more details as they become available.
