Habitat Affiliate Partners with “Bike & Build”

SANGAMON COUNTY – Habitat for Humanity of Sangamon County (HFHSC) announces the organization is hosting visiting volunteers from Bike & Build.

The visiting volunteers will be assisting HFHSC with its program for building wheelchair ramps for families in need. These ramps are being built to either allow recipients to continue living in their current home or to assist with mobility from a new or existing physical disability. United Way of Central Illinois and Kings Daughter Organization are providing funds for the program.

Bike & Build organizes cross-country bicycle trips that benefit affordable housing groups. They support local affordable housing organizations, such as HFHSC, along their biking routes through on-the-road donations and volunteering. Many volunteers are young adults who gain leadership and philanthropic experience while bringing the public’s attention to causes such as Habitat for Humanity.

“Habitat for Humanity is proud to partner with Bike & Build. In recent years, they have assisted with our mission to build decent, affordable houses in Sangamon County. Together, we are helping families escape from unsafe, unhealthy living conditions,” Executive Director of HFHSC Colleen Stone says.

Habitat for Humanity still seeks more volunteers and homeowners to assist in future projects around Sangamon County. More information can be found at their website here or by calling 217-523-2710.
