UIS hosting students and teachers from Ashikaga, Japan

SPRINGFIELD - University of Illinois - Springfield officials say 11 students and three teachers from Ashikaga, Japan will visit the school's campus this week to learn more about aquatic ecology and molecular biology in central Illinois.

The visiting students and teachers are from the Ashikaga Boys High School.  During the week-long trip, students will learn sampling techniques, fundamental water analysis, and basic molecular biology.  Additionally, the students will learn more about biodiversity and food web concepts, and how to identify insects native to central Illinois.

UIS officials say Springfield has been a Sister City to Ashikaga, Japan since 1990.  For more information about the University of Illinois - Springfield, visit http://www.uis.edu/.
