Red Cross opens flood shelter in Watseka

Posted: Updated:

PEORIA - American Red Cross officials say they have opened a shelter for Watseka residents who have been displaced by recent flooding.

The shelter is located at 1658 East Walnut Street in Watseka.  Officials say this is the second time this year that a shelter has been opened due to flooding.  The first shelter was opened on June 22, and remained open for several days.

Red Cross officials recommend that individuals and families prepare for floods by creating and practicing a disaster plan, assembling an emergency preparedness kit, paying attention to flood warnings, relocating during flood warnings, and keeping children and pets out of flood water.
