Authorities investigate 2 deaths in Christian County

UPDATE – The Taylorville Police Department reports the autopsies of both victims have been completed as of Monday, July 13.

Preliminary autopsy results report both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds. 80-year-old Richard Wurl died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. 76-year-old Linda Fillenworth died of gunshot wounds to the head.

Officers say there were no signs of forced entry, disturbance or other injuries in the 300 block of South Silver Street in Taylorville where the incident was reported.

This investigation is ongoing. More details will be provided as they become available.


CHRISTIAN COUNTY - Christian County authorities say they are investigating the deaths of two individuals found Monday morning.

Authorities say at about 8:41 a.m., 911 received a report of an unresponsive male.  Upon arriving at the residence, officers say they found a man in a chair with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.  Officers also say they found a woman inside the house, who had also suffered a gunshot wound.

Christian County Coroner Amy Winans says the individuals, identified as Richard Wurl, 80, and Linda Fillenworth, 76, were both pronounced dead at the scene.  Winans adds that autopsies will be performed in Bloomington later today.

The Taylorville Police Department and Christian County Coroner's Office are investigating these deaths.  We will provide more information as it becomes available.
