BBQ Championship Comes to Downtown Effingham

EFFINGHAM – The City of Effingham says it will host the Kansas City BBQ Society State BBQ Championship in its downtown area July 24 – 25.

This event will include award winning barbeque, live music, local vendors, wine and beer tasting. Proceeds will help support the Chamber Foundation Community Scholarship Program.

Festivities are set to begin on Friday, July 24 at 5:30 PM. Attendees will be able to taste dishes from the Hometown Throw-Down Local BBQ competition. Interested parties can sign up for the competition on the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce’s website. Wine and beer tasting will be open from 5 – 10 PM. Two live bands will play on the first night. Kilborn Alley Blues will play from 6 – 8 PM. CeCe & the Bandits will follow from 8 – 10 PM.

A farmer’s market will take place on Saturday, July 25 from 8 AM to 12 PM. The Courthouse Museum will be open from 10 AM to 2 PM. Children will also be able to participate in a demo derby from 1 – 2 PM, a Dairy Queen eating contest at 2 PM and other family-friendly activities.

Other Saturday festivities include: a Cornhole tournament starting at 1 PM and live music all afternoon from local high school bands and Garrett Biggs.

“The Official BBQ Cook-Off” takes place from 12 – 2 PM. Awards will be announced at 5 PM.
