Champaign Police Make Two Overnight Burglary Arrests

CHAMPAIGN – Champaign officers say they arrested two subjects in connection with two separate burglary incidents on Tuesday night and early Wednesday morning.

Authorities were dispatched to a reported residential burglary in the 400 block of East Green Street at approximately 11:49 PM on Tuesday, July 14. University of Illinois Police were also present and assisted in apprehending two subjects feeling from the area with stolen possessions. 37-year-old Ernest Robinson of Champaign was arrested on charges of residential burglary.

Officers recovered several stolen items from Robinson’s person and an alleyway hiding spot. Robinson was also in possession of a variety of keys stolen from a nearby property management company. He is currently being held at the Champaign County Jail. The other subject has not been located.

The victims of this burglary admitted their sliding glass door that Robinson and his partner used for entry was not locked at the time of the burglary.

Another burglary was reported on Wednesday, July 15 at 4:31 AM. Police responded to a reported motor vehicle burglary in the 1900 block of Alton Drive in Champaign. Officers say they located 23-year-old Douglas Lindsey of Champaign in possession of several stolen items including an iPod and a baby diaper bag. Lindsey was arrested on charges of burglary to a motor vehicle and possession of burglary tools. Many of the items were left in unlocked vehicles.

Champaign Police officers are adding additional patrols to combat the rise in burglaries. Deputy Police Chief Joe Gallo reminds the public to keep their homes and cars locked at all times.
