EIU: Budget cuts force furloughs for 222 employees

CHARLESTON (AP) – 222 employees of Eastern Illinois University will be required to take furloughs.

The school has had budget troubles due to lower student enrollment. EIU’s fiscal year 2016 budget left the school with a deficit between $12,000,000 and $14,000,000.

All administrative and professional workers at EIU are affected by furlough days. The number of days each employee will be forced to take will be determined by a sliding scale based on salary. Higher paid workers will be required to take as many as 14 days.
